There's a major difference! Lies are what tell when you can't come up with anything better. They are the cheap, inelegant hammer option in the toolbox of manipulation tactics. It is morally wrong, and if you tell enough, no one will trust you, and then what's the point? Telling the exact truth is way better. Still a deception, but factually correct and much more believable.
