NOTE REGARDING THIS APPLICATION CYCLE

For information about the animals and locations, be sure to check out the BIOME and BASE pages! Note that TDM threads can be used for game canon and several prompts are based on crew contributions to the base that are being worked on this month!

A: There’s a Storm on the Horizon
A brainstorm. On advice about the ingenuity of multi person parties, and from admitted lack of understanding of many needs of organics, URSULA has selected you and a partner (or partners) to go to one of the observatories with food, beds, and recording devices to have a jam session for ideas about missions.

You are not to leave the room until you have some good ones. So get cracking! Start suggesting to one another what the base needs to do.

Or get horribly, horribly sidetracked and possibly a little crazy at being locked up together with the ocean staring at you. Judging.

B: The Abysmal Sea
You’re stranded.

One of the planet’s troublesome signal-interfering pulses has just made your communication devices 100% nonfunctional. No matter how you try to call URSULA for help, she isn’t able to respond. The database strapped to your wrist is just a useless chunk of metal now, leaving you without a useful library of knowledge to survive off. If you were driving any underwater vehicle prior to this point, it’s broken down. And unless you’re a mechanic, it’ll be pretty hard to get it jumpstarted again.

Don’t fret! The communication systems always come online eventually, so if you stay put, it’ll boot back up and give you directions straight back to base so you can finally get home. But can you really afford to stay put? The sunlight’s slowly streaming out of the sky, leaving the waters darker and darker with each passing second. Soon, you won’t be able to see five feet in front of you, and the only warning you’ll get of any approaching threat is through sound, if they even make any.

You have a few choices: take a daring risk and try swimming back to base, but on the off-chance you don’t remember the directions correctly from before you were cut off, you’re going to get even more lost, in the darkness of the night no less. Or, you could huddle in, with any friends if they were unfortunate enough to be with you, and start focusing on getting warm. Because spending the night out here in the vast oceans with the entire world against you is becoming a very, very real possibility.

C: Test Drive Test Dives
The Robotics section of the laboratory needs your help! Whether you were a poor sap who got dragged into it or love working on robots, this is your time to shine!

A few suits need testing to get the kinks out of them. And you know, figure out how they work in general. So be a dear and get in one so the others can watch you flail around and discover how it works.

If you're not into being a crash test dummy, you can help do repair work, analyze blueprints of various underwater vehicles, bring in scrap metal to work with or maybe just try painting the Seamoth neon pink.

D: Camping Trip
Floater Island is the only real land around so even if it's a longer trip, it's nice to volunteer for an overnight mission there sometimes. Who doesn't want to camp out under the stars when you've been living under the sea this whole time? Attempt to make s'mores out of plants and that chocolate bar you have left! Play with Birdogs! Go for a swim in the lake! Try very hard to get some sort of emotional response from a Light Frog!

Well, sure, you're here on a mission but it's okay to goof off and enjoy yourselves with some campfire stories and freshly cooked Chomper kebobs sometimes. Just grab a few samples from the abandoned farm at least so it looks like you actually worked.

E: THE AURORA
Quiet except for the creaks and rumbles as the ship settles and shifts, the sound of Reapers screaming in the distance every so often, the Aurora is a creepy place to visit for a mission. The remains of those crew members not buried, and the belongings of many others, still litter the ship's halls. It might be nice to remove any skeletons you find.

Of course, their misfortune is your opportunity to catch up on some reading, browse whatever video games they left, get medical supplies and enjoy the comforts they no longer need.

But is it possible the Aurora is haunted? Surely not. Except sometimes you might hear voices from far away. It might just be the people you came on board with, unless they're with you. Or it might be a Cave Crawler knocking over some recording device. You're not too scared to check, right?

F: Farmville
Time to tend to the crops! That's right, the underwater farm needs your help. Some trees and plants rest on the seabed under protective covers that allow them to grow their leaves and fruits while the roots firmly keep them in the sand. Harvest some apples, more apples, oranges, strawberries and other delicious produce that sounds much, much better than a regular diet of fish.

And once you've helped get a basket full of crops for the base, it's time to cook them! But what are you going to make? Apple stuffed fish? Orange stuffed fish? Nah, get creative with what you have! Everyone is counting on you for dinner!

[ As one of his 'fortes' Yuri normally didn't mind cooking duty. But checking inventory? He'll take this ghost ship over that any day. ]

Lost them on the upper deck, didn't we. Let's hope they're having better luck than we are.

[ although better than doing anything back at the base. ]

Think it might be a ghost?

No. [ how eloquent. there's a reason she's more of a doer than a talker.

she sighs as she steps over what she thinks used to be some sort of message relay. no need to stop and inspect it. anything of use from it gone with how battered and broken it is. ]
If there were ghosts, wouldn't we been informed by the others beforehand?

It'll be a nice thing to be warned about.

[personal profile] vigilantims 2016-06-17 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd ruin the surprise.

[ He pushes aside a skeleton as they walked towards the noise. Just as with the message box of sorts, no need to inspect it. However-- ]

You never know. Any of these skeletons could be holding some kind of spirit.

[ is he joking? Most likely. But hey. You never really could know. ]

[ that wasn't nice. / we're not here to be nice. we're here to scout and salvage. / still…

a sigh passes adaline's lips though the sound had come from eveline, her disappointment strong enough to be expressed through their shared body. she was always the more sensitive one between the two of them.

adaline peers down the opening of a passage they pass by but sees, a little further, that its' blocked by debris that'll be difficult to clear. maybe later. ]

You don't happen to know any exorcising spells if that happens then, do you? I don't think I can put a ghost in a chokehold. [ well- she could try. ]

[ yuri gives a quick eyebrow raise before shrugging the sigh off. Guess the idea of ghosts in skeletons can be a bit of disappointment. At least, it's what he figured from the sigh.

Another noise can be heard down the hallway as they walked. Sounds like they're getting closer to... whatever it is. Once they figure out the noise they can go back and pick up the debris. Maybe. ]

I can't use magic. So we're out of luck if we need it.

[ not unless he can punch it in the jaw or swing a sword at it. ]

Let's hope we don't; I don't plan on dying today on some ship.

That would be an embarrassing way for us to go. More so seeing as how this is our first trip to the Aurora.

[ she assumes this is his first trip along with hers. which raises the question of how they're allowed to wander off by themselves in the first place. without, at the very least, a senior member to ensure they won't get into situations like these.

adaline could almost hear the bossman sigh in frustration if she learned the little predicament she was in and- hm. there's that sound again.

the sounds… are closer now. certainly more ominous due to how near they seem to be. and yet the source of the racket doesn't strike her as something organic from her quick scan of the environment. good to know some of her internal modifications are still working in spite of being separate from the division.

adaline keeps her back straight despite eveline causing a flicker of fear to run up her spine. she turns to her partner, head cocked and an eyebrow raised. ]
My- Doesn't definitely sound like a happy camper to me.

No kidding. Fail now and we might not get a second chance.

[ this is indeed his first time, and he damn well doesn't want it to be his last. One of their other crew members might have been a senior, but so much for that. There still aren't any signs of the others they've arrived with.

If anyone he knew found out about this he would never hear the end of it.

But there's no time to think about that. The sound was no way human, but the way it makes the ship creak was unnerving. ]

Not at all. Ready to pay the noise a visit?

[ he responds, his own head cocked as he looks back at her. There's a glint of mischievousness in his eyes. Whatever is down there, it must be a discovery of some sort. ]

If I wasn't, I would have followed you here after all.

[ adaline has to turn eveline's sacred head shaking into a defiant and determined crack of her neck. there's a brief moment of needing to tell her sister to back down, to let her handle this and she feels a flicker of remorse at how eveline seems to pull away thanks to her rebuke. harsh but necessary.

she's scared. eveline, that is. adaline knows her sister is nervous of what may lay ahead of them judging by the constant flow of low murmuring that she strains to her in her mind but this won't hurt them. that's what she tells herself as they finally get to the source of the noise.

or, at least, to the closed door that holds the source of the noise. judging by the panel next to it that it needs to be activated by a press of a button but at least its colour coded: green for open and red for closing. ]

Looks like this is it. [ she crosses her arms, a quiet 'humph' under her breath.

after all this build up there better be something interesting to fight. or useful to bring back. whichever. ]

That's what I like to hear!

[ the defiant headshake was a little much, but yuri'll let it slide. though damn, hope she didn't hurt her neck making it crack like that.

the noise is all... beyond this closed door. of course it is. yuri folds his arms at what is the most unexpected thing to see before they get to the source of the noise.

at least it doesn't look like it has some code stuck to it. if it did yuri would choose to break it down, instead. or at least try to. ]

Well, what are we waiting for? You do the honors, since you're so ready.

[ with that ~defiant~ headshake and all. he doesn't expect something to jump right at them, but his wish for something to be beyond the door is just as high. if nothing is on the otherwise then why did they even come. ]

I'm flattered. Glad to see someone remembers their manners here.

[ there's two ways for them to go about this. and of course her sister would like for her to take the more civilised approach to it. wouldn't hurt to try and go about this carefully if something threatening was actually behind that door.

adaline reaches out and presses the green button of the console next to the door, stepping back to observe what would happen. she only sighs a little bit when the only response she receives is a little burst of flicking sparks before the dim lights on the pad fade for good.

alright then.

the second way. ]
Excuse me-

[ she reaches for the side of the door where there's a noticeable dent on the surface of the door that causes a gap between the door and the frame. not a lot except for her to slip both her hands in and pull.

not too much of a struggle, adaline thinks, as she yanks the door open after a moment of gathering herself and is met with a surge of dirty water suddenly rushes out the door, a swarm of irritable cave crawlers rushing out along with the waters. ]

Fuck. [ the room ahead of them, interesting as it may look thanks to something glowing steadily in the distance, will have to wait. the cave crawlers are making their displeasure of being caught off guard known. angrily snapping their pinchers as they rush pass the pair of them. snapping and sniping in an attempt to grab hold of skin or hair or cloth. ] Careful. I've been told they have a bad tendency to swarm a target.

[personal profile] vigilantims 2016-06-19 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ As much as beating the door down would have been fun, the civilized approach does seem to be the best one. Of course it doesn't work, but pushing the door did. Good. Time to see what's in there. adaline seems to still be getting it just fine, so Yuri just sits back and watches. he doesn't want to stop using his "manners" and get in the way of her work.

and hey, look at that. she opened it. after the surge of water yuri sees the cave crawlers ]

Well well, looks like we have company.

[ he's not pleased about the numbers, but this meant that they're getting closer. least he damn hopes so as he keeps one of them from grabbing his hair. today is not the day he'll be cutting it, thank you very much. ]

Tch. Bring it on! We'll take them down in no time.

[ comment aside there is quite a lot of them. careful isn't yuri's middle name, but he's managed to somehow get out of bad situations before. ]

[ / oh dear… this looks it'll be messy. / let me take care of this.

the sudden silence on her sister's end, and the more ease she had in her movements, confirms adaline's suspicion that she'll be in control for this. it's for the best, she thinks.

knowing it'll be a bit of an overkill to bring out her gun for this, she simply reaches behind to ensure it stays in place because the last thing she wants is for it to slip off her belt and go off in the water. neither of them will be happy with that happening to them because no way she'll live it down.

thank goodness the crawlers all seem startled more than anything as the crustaceans-like creatures just keep flailing at their claws at them, menacingly taking swipes and cuts at the pair. at first at least. there's movement out of the corner of her eye and she follows it to see something that makes her do a double take. ]

-Hey! Watch out. [ her voice raised so he could hear her, adaline turned around and managed to swat away a particularly large crawler that had tried to lunge at yuri as they passed him by. shit. it looks like they're getting their bearings faster than she expected.

that'll be adaline's cue to try and lurch forward, doing her damnedest to ignore the rushing water and the angry crawlers that were still taking swipes and snipes at their legs. ]
We'll have to keep moving forward while fighting them off. Staying here won't do us any favours since they seem to be more than a mere pest when they're in numbers.

[ obvious but doesn't hurt to make that clear in their situation. ]

[personal profile] vigilantims 2016-06-28 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ at first everything didn't seem to bad. yuri was able to keep track at any that were jumping at him, whether it was to grab his hair or his suit. though there was really no time to unsheathed his sword. nor would it be a good idea because then his sheath would be swept away into the rushing water. so the best he can do is whack them with a sheathed sword alongside his normal punches.

it ... wasn't going too well. suddenly he hears adaline's voice and only manages to catch a glimpse of the crawler that nearly clawed him. ]

Shit--

[ he knocks another crawler that took to lunging at him away. when the hell they managed to get their bearings he doesn't know, but they're not at a good spot right now. ]

Lead on. Just don't lead us into their lair. [ because while adaline's idea is a wise one it would be back if they somehow came upon where they were coming from. they had to be coming from somewhere.

also by her leading he just might be able to return the favor. there was no time for thanks, so this'll do. ]
